Tan Dun, who wowed the 2004 Festival, returns with his new opera Tea: A Mirror of Soul for three performances at the opening week of the 2006 Festival; The United Kingdom's renowned living composer James MacMillan visits New Zealand for the first time to conduct his own work Quickening in a programme that also include works by New Zealand's award-winning composer Ross Harris.
