Auckland’s Academy Cinema is playing host to an evening film exhibition on Monday 17 October. ELAM PAST AND PRESENT will allow the wider public a rare insight into what Elam moving image students have to offer. This is an experience not to be missed!

Short films by students from the Elam School of Fine Arts will be shown alongside works by successful Elam graduates Florian Habicht and Briar March. Exhibition Director Katrin Hagen is in the process of selecting films from entries by current Elam students and the official line-up will be announced at the beginning of September.

”The aim of ELAM PAST AND PRESENT is to successfully demonstrate the path from Elam student to professional filmmaker”, says Exhibition Director Katrin Hagen.

”The most exciting thing about this exhibition is that it will be a ‘premier’ evening for most of the films screened. Many of these films have never before been viewed by the general public.”

Since graduating from Elam School of Fine Arts, both Florian Habicht and Briar March have gained considerable attention and respect in the filmmaking world. Their films have screened at various festivals around New Zealand and internationally. Habicht is well-known for recent films Woodenhead and Kaikohe Demolition and is currently overseas working on his new feature-length film, Permissive Paradise. Briar March’s film Allie Eagle and Me screened at the Telecom 2005 New Zealand International Film Festival.

March will present an informative talk on the night, outlining her development in the filmmaking world. After the screening there will be an opportunity to mingle with the filmmakers over drinks and nibbles. Five ELAM PAST AND PRESENT posters, signed by the filmmakers, will be given away as spot prizes on the night.

Look out for posters and flyers distributed around Auckland from mid-September, printed courtesy of Wyatt & Wilson Print.
